Magnepan SMGa - $300 Boston CL

That price is in keeping with the market for these. Being smaller and thus easier to ship and store as well as being heavily hyped at the MUG, they tend to sell for much more than the better larger models.

Seeing that those are the original socks and knowing their age, it's pretty much a given that they'll need a spot of Miloxane at the ends of the mid/bass panel and new treble wires installed in the tweeter. Easy work with a $50/shipped kit, but the buyer will have to fight the five dozen staples holding each sock on. I do know that these socks tend to shrink when removed and are exceedingly difficult to put back on right, so it'd be best to add a new set of socks to the order of the kit.

Make an offer with the above information and see what happens.

Thanks for the excellent tips and advice.

I just dumped some cash into replacement drivers on my ADS L1230s today, so the kitty is a little slim.

I'm tempted to drop a note to him, and seeing what kind of budge-room he gives.

Any idea on specs? Height? Width? Range?

The SMGa information on this page is correct. Just watch out for some of the info with the other models, such as years that are way off.

These speakers are a lot of fun...I actually used to own a set that looked EXACTLY like that. They were only about $750/pair new, and seem to hold their value rather well.

IIRC they are also just a single panel with differently spaced winding for the bass and higher frequnecy sections...not a full two-panel like some of the larger Maggies.

Very natural sounding speaker, and a good match for most decent amplifiers...good bass response too, as long as you aren't looking to shake the house. Match with a decent subwoofer (My friend is using a pair of 8" 100w Energy subs with some success) and you have a really nice full-range rig!
