Magnificent Magnavox (?) Console: Tube or SS?

Wigwam Jones

Caesar non supra grammati
I cannot tell from the photos, but if I squint at it right, it looks like a Magnavox, and from the vent holes on the back, I'd guess tube. But I have no idea. Anyone?

Not mine, not representing the seller, etc, etc. I might be interested in bidding if it was in fact a tube unit; if someone else bids on it, I won't lose any sleep over it, Grand Rapids, MI is a hike from me.

Thanks!

I'd proffer the same guess, although the receiver cosmetics (i.e., the knobs) look a tad moderne. The giveaway, as I am sure you know, would be the "AstroSonic" moniker. See that, and high-tail it in the opposite direction.

I have an newspaper advert from Feb. '65 for an Astro-Sonic in that cabinet. While not definitive, because Magnavox used some cabinets for both tube and transistor models; I'd say 1965 is getting pretty deep into Magnavox Astron-Sonic territory.

My initial thought, based on those ring pulls, was that it was an early stereo unit and therefore tube. I was surprised that Magnavox was using hardware that I associate with 1950s consoles in the mid 60s. Now that I think about it, though, even Fisher continued to use them into the mid 60s: the '66 Futura, for instance.
