My Vintage rig #1 will never offer the resolution the Main rig will, Vintage rig= (Yamaha CR2040/Yamaha NS690MkI/Kenwood KD500/Magnapan Unitrac1/Sonus Blue Gold/Marantz SA8003)

But for music for diner or casual listening, it is the bomb! The presentation if sitting in the CHAIR is amazing, and this is what makes AK what it is, and blend of new and old that makes us smile, and our toes tap!

Does it rival my main rig? No, but it is a great system that takes my breath away!

Might be what makes AK the best Audio destination on the web

Same exact situation here. My modern "big rig" does all the high end audio tricks, and fortunately makes great music too. But I LOVE listening to my vintage rig as well, and do so very regularly. Just a different take on the music. Modern and vintage, both systems make me grin from ear to ear.

I guess to an extent so does mine - my "modern" rig has a bunch of 1950's vacuum tubes in it, and my "vintage" rig has a Network Music Player/DAC :D

Well both my main rig and Vintage rig have a mix of both. The Main Rig has two Turn Tables from the late 60's early 70's and my Magnapans are circa 1984.
The vintage rig has a Marantz SA8003 SACD Player from a year or so ago.

Interesting perspective ... I have 2 rigs also - one is multichannel/surround,
the other is just Stereo and currently has tubes (tho it didn't always) ...

I only have 1 system and its all old mac gear from the 70's and 80's. But in the next year or so I'll splurge and get a DAC and a few other modern amenities. I could be completely wrong, but I'm willing to bet the new macs dont sound terribly different/better than the stuff they made 30-40 years ago

My various systems are completely mixed as well. Unless I become much wealthier so it shall remain. The biggest difference between the main rig and the vintage ones is in the amplification. Is my CJ MV45 really "vintage" now? It was a 2 year old puppy when I bought it!

While the "main rig" satisfies the sound qualities and specs we may look for, the vintage rig satisfies the tweaker/restorer/sentimentalism in us.

I am at a point in my audio hobby that precision playback is not a requirement. I listen to what I perceive to be the most musical sounding system.

My vintage rig sound good enough for me!

Someone paypal me 30000$ pls so I can get some of those high end speakers to turn it into this high-end rig you gentlemen speak of.

;)

Same boat. My little vintage bedroom system gets far more play than my main setup. I live in an apartment so it's audible through the whole place...

My systems are either ALL vintage, or at least PARTIALLY vintage. I do not have any systems comprised of all modern equipment.

I tend to think of my systems as children. They all have strengths and weaknesses, and they all have their own unique personality....but I love 'em all!
