Maintenance for 8 track Questions

This may be unrelated to the 8 track players in the house. This question is something I can't find anywhere on the net. I have a underdash 8 track player in my 66 Mustang. This player had the entire electronics inside gone through this summer. The player plays 8 tracks remarkably well!! (as good as a 8 track can sound !!) I have acquirred a cassette adapter for it and the sound is not at all as powerful or detailed. I have played cassettes and even connected a cassette with a 1/8" audio jack connected to a mp3 and no change. My question is do I need to demagentize the head on the cassette adapter or look to find a different 8 track/cassette adapter?

There were quite a few of these adapters marketed when 8 track was dying and cassette was taking over, with quite a bit of variation in quality. Some got their power from the player (via the track change contacts), and some had their own internal 9v battery. First thing I'd check is to see if yours needs a battery, and if so what condition it's in. The best of these adapters work pretty well in most 8 tracks; the cheaper ones, not so much.
