Make sure your pets are secure

Every 4TH of July tons of our furry family members do the unthinkable, they run away, stressed from all the fireworks. Please be sure your pet has a safe hiding spot where they can shelter. Remind everyone in your household to be extra vigilant opening and closing doors and gates.

Take care and be safe,

Rob

The neighbor's dog has been barking at the fireworks the last couple nights. Last year, the other neighbor's dog got loose and ran off. Thankfully they found him down the road a ways.

Mine cats hide downstairs or under the bed. That's why we call them pussycats.

Good thread and I thank you for it. We use Xanax here on the dogs that get scared. I have two that do, and two that don't. same with thunder.

I have one in his Thundershirt and under the bed, the other has never been bothered by the before but lately gets upset and she is in my lap. She is normally the wife's shadow, but lately when it's storming or now with the FW she stays near me.

My cat is sitting on the patio watching right now, doesn't phase him at all. We live in the country and they're are six or seven stands within a few miles of the house, so you can imagine the noise outside, it's constant.

At least every Friday the Hilton sets off 15 minutes of fireworks--not a problem. It's when the neighbor sets off homemade bombs it's too close to home, then he heads to his bunker in the hall closet until it's over ;)

We have 2 dogs and both freaking during thunderstorms and fireworks. We give them a little sedative to help them stay calm, or at least able to tolerate the noise. They are both resting comfortably in the living room with my wife. They won't go out until the racket quiets down.

When a storms sneaks up during the middle of the night and haven't had time to dose them ahead of time, it makes for a long night.

I just heard of those shirts last week, how do they work?

Sad story I saw on the news last night with a legally blind woman's Black Lab wandered off. She thinks he got spooked during neighborhood celebrations when she left him in the back yard.

So sad & I pray she gets him back to help her go about her life.

Thundershirt for fireworks/thunderstorm anxiety.

They do work.

The vet prescribed my dog Xanax, and it keeps her doped up for a couple of days. I gave it to her a few times, but I dont like her being in a daze for so long . I may have to check out that Thundershirt .

My cat sits on the porch with me and watches the fireworks...he isnt scared of anything. My last 2 cats would run if you sneezed the wrong way.

Thundershirt is an upper-body wrap that fits snugly, with velcro closures. Our Nikki, rescue dog, had separation anxiety issues, so we put this on her when we left. Maker describes it as "the dog feels like it's being hugged". Fit is fairly critical, so see if you can get one at a pet store, where you can fit your dog correctly.

The Thundershirt worked. We don't need to use it on Nikki anymore. She's over that phase.
