Man In Cave's Man Cave Journey Has Begun

Looking good! I just finished my basement last year (also not a carpenter) and I'll give you a few "lessons learned":
1) Expect it to take 3x as long as you think it will.
2) Hang the drywall yourself. It's a forgiving art.
3) PAY SOMEONE TO TAPE AND MUD THE DRYWALL. This was the best money I've ever spent, and made up for my half-arsed drywall job, especially because I had a lot of vents and "weird spots" to build around.
4) Spend plenty of time on the lighting layout and low-voltage stuff you're going to run. You only get one shot. Give yourself plenty of room in the low voltage conduit to run additional stuff down the road.
5) Try to have fun!

As a drywaller by trade I always chuckle to myself when folks say they would rather hang than finish drywall, I'm the opposite I would rather finish than hang lol,

Dont get me wrong having done my share of completing undone doit urselfer drywall projects went wrong I get it, but finishing drywall is very doable by most folks who are willing to role up their sleaves and use a common sense (your not going to fill everything in one coat) approach.

Anywho nice progress,put on some good tunes while you work, pace yourself, dont be afraid to tackle new things yourself, and soon your mancave project will be a finished reality, keep up the good work.

My father used to say only put on as much compound on as you want to sand off.Some tend to apply too much then have sand most of it off to get a flat surface. Cheers and looking forward to your new room.

Any update's on your project? I am in the process of cleaning my disaster of a basement in preparation to build a dedicated listening room.
A little motivation would be very helpful right about now

I'm in the same situation as OkkiNokkiUSA and would like to see more photos for inspiration. I've lost two rooms in the basement to my daughters so they can have their own rooms. One was my cave for years but I gave it up so my oldest could have her own room. Then another room was going to be created as my cave but as soon as I started framing it out it was claimed. Now I'm left with about a 9x10 ft space to finish out as an office/cave, assuming the cat doesn't claim that space...
