Mapleshade Anti-Static Brush

wanders

Super Member
I'm dying heah, from dry weather static electricity. Use a nitty gritty micro brush, zerostat ionizer, anti-static inner sleeves, anti static mat, etc.

Anybody tried the Mapleshade, grounded anti-static brush? At $40, it's not cheap.

I have one and use it with the Mapleshade Ionoclast (static zapper). If you buy one and decide you don't like it, you can send it back within 30 days. I swear by mine. Amazingly, the bristles are stainless steel, but are softer that any brush I've ever used, including Hunt and Audioquest carbon fiber brushes. The stainless steel bristles are 1/6th the diameter of a human hair, according to Mapleshade.

I'll post a dissenting opinion. I returned my Mapleshade brush because of three things: one, the metal clamping deal that holds the bristles in had incredibly sharp corners, and I didn't like the idea of that being half an inch from my albums. Two, those bristles may feel soft, but do a little test: get an album you don't care about, and drag the brush across (not with) the grooves, then do the same thing with a carbon fiber or other brush. The Mapleshade does noticeably more damage. Yes, going across the grooves with anything will leave a mark, but I was alarmed by the amount of damage it did. And three, it did nothing for the static. I ended up getting this:

It's only $29.95. You can get them with a grounding cord for $15 more, but here's the deal. The handle is made of a conductive plastic, so you can just clip on an alligator clip and ground the other end, and achieve the same thing. Honestly though, I've never discharged much static with anti-static brushes. It takes an anti-static gun to do anything at all, at least IME.

I'm not down on all Mapleshade stuff. I have their Ionoclast anti-static gun, and it works well. I also have their Samson equipment rack, and it's fantastic for my turntable -- totally solid and massive vibration damping. Plus it looks great.

I've got an old Zerostat which works some; you ca see small particles loosening, but by the end of a side, I've got to do it again; then the dust is difficult to remove.

My wife has a humidifier around somewhere; think I'll try that before buying any more gadgets. Thanks for sharing.
