Marantz 1040 DBT stupid question

Hey all, Got a 1040, again, bought it for the wood case, but figured I'd check it out. Being new to all this, I am still learning. When I connect it to a DBT, it passes, until I engage the speaker switch, then I get a bright bulb. I never left it on long enough to see if there is sound as I was worried about the bulb going bright. I was told previously that if it passes at idle, it is ok to power it on the main. I just don't want to do any additional damage if something is wrong. I did re-cap the power supply and almost all of the power amp (short 1 cap). I am able to set the dc and bias to spec. Is it ok to go to main power and try speakers?

Where speakers hooked up when you clicked on the (main or remote speaker switch) ? What size bulb is in the DBT ? If you did have speakers hooked up... the DBT should of gone bright then dimmed down. More people will chime in.

Speakers hooked up, goes bright when I press the 'main' button and doesn't go dim, 40 watt bulb, don't see a protection relay and no clicks. Bulb is bright only when main pressed and speakers hooked up. If no speakers and main is pressed, passes dim bulb. Speakers are 8ohm.
 
line consumption should be taken care of with the auto current detection ..even if speakers were shorted it should blow the speaker fuses .
you could try removing one speaker fuse at a time and try narrow it down a bit ..
or simply check dc offsets ..no speakers connected .. still on dbt ..
 
Checked and adjusted DC offset and bias to spec. 20mv bias 0 dc offset both channels, no speakers connected, on the DBT. I still have not left it on for any amount of time with the speakers connected. Am I safe to not do damage if I leave it on with the DBT for 20 seconds or so and see what happens?

I can run any unit on a 60 then 100 watt bulb dbt for hours if I want playing through speakers.
it only should light up the bulb if you're cranking it up.

It lights as soon as I press the 'main' button, most time it goes dim immediately, my 4230 made the light oscillate with only the slightest of volume, this one goes bright with no volume. As soon as I connect the speakers, the light goes dim for an instant and the goes bright and a hum through the speakers with no volume or input.
 
Bias was still on with main power connected, when back to DBT with 100w bulb, fires up and plays great. Thanks, just didn't want to do something wrong and do damage. Rich
