Hi,
I am determined to repair a Marantz 1050 amplifier that was going to be thrown away. I have some knowledge of electronics, basic soldering skills, and basic tools (alas, no oscilloscope, but a good multimeter). I've been lurking in these forums and reading about amp recapping, and I have enough info and skills to do it myself (I believe).
Before I go ahead I wanted to do a visual assessment, and after looking at it, I believe this amp has been opened before. I've found power caps with voltage different than spec (and that seem to have leaked ), burn marks, different cap brands, etc. Also, some cables seem soldered sloppily compared to others. I've attached some images with annotations.
Yesterday I turned it on (I know I probably should not have done that), and it kind of worked. I put on headphones and I could hear music by turning the volume practically to the max, with a lot of distortion and artefacts. The music sounded very far away but it was there. So, something is working.
I'd greatly appreciate some advice and information from more experienced people that can look at the photos and tell me whether what I pointed at is normal and it could likely be repaired, or the unit is actually hopeless.
