Marantz 1060 as a Photo Stage and as a Preamp

I have been connecting my turntable to the 1060 integrated amp. Lately there is a tube integrated Willsenton R8 offered to me at a very reasonable price. However, the R8 doesn't have phono in. I have two options: to use the 1060 as a pre to utilise the phono stage in it and feed it into the R8, or to get a separate phono stage and leave the 1060 aside. I have a few questions derived out of this situation:

1. How good is Marantz 1060's preamp section compared with modern stuff? I know the preamp on 1060 has earned many praises, but how well will it compare against modern preamps at the similar price level?

2. How good is Marantz 1060's phono stage compared with modern stuff?

3. The 1060 has been described as tube like or warm. If using it as a pre to a real tube amp, would it be a good match, or too much of the same thing?

I can't comment as to how the 1060 compares to modern preamps but I really like my 1060 used as a phono preamp into my tube ASR-433 amp.

the 1060 phono stage is excellent and would take quite a step up to better it, if you want a separate phono pre you might try a tube one though which will offer a bit different sound and work well with the tube amp to get a fuller tube sound. i use both SS and tube pre's with my tube gear and and vice versa, they both work fine, its more of a sound preference thing.
