Spend some time on the preamp board. It's worth it. Replace the transistors with KSC1845 and KSA992. Use Panasonic FC Electrolytics and Panasonic ECQ stacked film caps for signal path (1uf and smaller). Wima MKS film caps for 3.3uf. I used these for both a 1060 and a 2230. They both sound GREAT! Also, those transistor and capacitor replacements are good for the phono amp too.
