Marantz 1060 restoration

You're absolutely right about the woofs, they're not 100% airtight & should be. But they're much closer to it than you might think, there's like a 1/16" gap between the basket & the baffle, so it's not TOO bad. ;) One of these days when it's not raining, I'll make some spacers for them.

Nice work! I have a 1060 sitting in my 'big pile o' stuff' awaiting some work (photo shows it sitting on my old Eico HF-81, another candidate for re-build). Care to share your parts list and source via PM or post?

Mine sounds pretty dull and lifeless so is surely a candidate for re-capping. I ran the power section with a Grand Fidelity P-307 pre-amp and it sounded amazing. This probably points to the pre as worst for need on re-capping.

Do it! This wasn't too expensive. I think its about $80 when you total everything up. More than half of that were the big Gold Tunes.

What would someone charge to do a job like that aside from the cost of the parts, or would it be prohibitive?

I spent maybe 5 or 6 hours on it. I think I work pretty quick for an amateur. If a tech was paid to do it, it would probably be 4 or 5 hours @ $60 per... so A LOT. It was truly not that hard to do at all though, I think it could even be a learner recap unit if one has experience soldering.

I've been soldering for 35 years give or take, and although not the steadiest hand around, I can usually get two wires to stick. Since I have nothing to risk here, I may just give it a whirl. The thing just crapped out on me this afternoon after a long a fruitful life. Powers on but no sound. So this would be a good time. First I'll figure that out and and after you post your list I'll see what I can do with a recap.

SB If you happen across the list it would be greatly appreciated. Nice job on the recap as well.

C704 47uF 50V
C711 10uF 35V
C712 10uF 35V
and four times 47uF 50V that was obscured by glue
also two times 22uF 50V also obscured
PS filter: 1x 4700uF 80V 50mm diameter 80mm height (100mm max allowable)
Coupling caps 2x 3000uF 55V 35mm diameter mm height (100mm max allowable)
I used a 50mm by 100mm 10,000uF 80V cap for the power supply
Then I used two 35mm by something or other height 8,200uF 63V caps for the coupling caps. I suggest using at LEAST this much, I would have done 10,000uF if the diameter allowed.

Hey Will, I thought you might like seeing this. I finally picked up a tuner today to match the 1060, a Model 105B. It needs a "stereo" light & one dial light, but everything works well, & the faceplate's pretty much perfect. :thmbsp: This one's not exactly "high-end", but it's pretty good on local stations, and obviously matches the 1060 perfectly, cosmetically. :smoke:
