Marantz 1060

Hey everyone,

I may have the chance to pick up a pristine Marantz 1060 for $40, complete with its wood case. The catch, however, is that one of the channels is not working--sorry, this is all that I know about the issue at this point.

Given this, do you all think that it's still worth two twenties?

Thanks, as always, for your guidance!

The answer is yes. The wood case is likely worth more than $40.
These sound great, much like the highley regarded 2230 receivers.
When you get it, post over on the Marantz forum, lots of knowledgeable folks there to help you get it going.

Hi EM,

Hell yes! I own a Marantz 1060 and it's a nice Amp. Presently, I use the 1060 as my Turntable Amp. Oooh, my 1060 also had one channel that was not working correctly. I just took an Air hose, blow out the dust and then I went to Town with the DE-OXIT spraying EVERY button, switch, control,
input, etc. and WORKING each button/control several times. It's worked find ever since. Best of luck.

Regards,
SixCats!

Snag it, if you don't want it send it my way. I'd be happy to bring that back to life.:thmbsp:

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement. I'll be picking it up this weekend, and I'll put some pics (most likely with some newbie-ish questions) on the Marantz forum.

I hope like sixcats, this will be a relatively easy repair.

Have a good weekend, Matt

Could be something as easy as a jump across the pre-amp to main amp jacks or a good cleaning ....

Good luck !

Damn! The 1060 has one hell of a solid build. Mines in getting a recap. The tech checked distortion before starting and it read less than 0.1 percent at 1 kHz.The date stamp on the unit is 1973. Thats 36 years and still going strong. I may gain some stability by recapping it but I'm not sure I will hear much difference with a pre-restoration reading like that. Or so I am assuming. The tech says that reading is VERY good. I really have no clue exactly what it means in relationship to the amplifier at all levels of listening, bass response etc, but the tech seemed a little loathe after the reading to do the recap.

Yep, just buy it, sell me the case for $40, & you got yourself a FREE 1060. Just kidding, on the case, of course. ;)

Nice amp...

And great user name... I have that album on vinyl, CD, and cassette (kept at all times in the glove box of my old '88 Mazda, for emergencies) :D
