MARANTZ 1090 ISSUES

In picture on the right (the transistors from NJ), the black transistor is obviously a fake; the 2SB618 does look genuine. As for the ones from China, the script looks wrong and the dimple on the lower left is missing, may be fakes.
 
Looked again at the ones from China, the dimple is present, it just didn't come through on my photo, will compare the script to the originals.
 
Update on the 1090.... found a blown one on cragslist for $50.00, but it had a nice faceplate, a couple of good knobs, the black cover (the one I working on was obviously dropped at some point in it's life and the case is a little rippled), and a volume control. Cleaned it up and replaced the volume control, now both channels play very, very softly with the volume all the way down and they increase at the same rate, so I can live with it and it actually looks pretty decent. It does have one strange problem and since I am not a tech any advice would be welcome..... this unit has a rotary switch for the tone mode ... off - on - loudness ... when I got it, the tone mode was not working right and on advise of the forum, I changed out QE01 - QE08 and that gave me active tone controls on both channels, but when you turn on 'loudness' there is no difference in the sound. It almost seems like the loudness is always on when the tone controls are on, because the bass is very strong and I have to cut it back from flat so it's not too much. Any ideas from this fountain of Marantz knowledge? Can live with it the way it is, but would like to get it right. Thanks Rich
