I have a 1090 that I just hooked up to my pioneer setup I had a 9900 pioneer which is 100 watts , but after listening to this marantz I really like it , I have 4 Altec 14's which can be driven with 10 to 350 watts , Anyone have any opinions about a 1060? I know it's smaller yet but I hear they sound awesome . also can anyone compare the 1090 to the 1060 for me ?

I have both a 1060 and a 1090 and I would choose the 1060 over the 1090.

I prefer the sound of the 1060, it has that classic Marantz sound that most people expect. The 1090 is a fine sounding amplifier, however it doesn't do anything special for me.

Great now your going to make me go out and buy a 1060. LOL this 1090 sounds much warmer than my Pioneer SA 9900 , maybe it's the Altecs with the lower watts , I can't put my finger on it but I like the sound

4 Altec 14's!! :thmbsp: that's gotta sound great! I agree with everyone about the 1060, it does sound nicer IMO.

I listened to the 1090 taday and I swear it's much better sounding than my Pioneer Sa 9900 , the 1090 is only 65 watts but it sounds so much fuller than the peioneer , I see some 1060's on ebay for around the 250.00 mark , I may have to step out of my Pioneer only box and try one out.............or just leave this little 1090 in the loop

1060

My 1060 is 40 years old and still sounds ok.
I am replacing new caps this week for the first time.
Only problem I ever had was the power switch. Replaced many times in 40 yrs. then I finally bypassed it.

1090 is a great sounding amplifier , plus it has middle control and main in pre out , in his price range 100_300 euros , it is hard if not impossible to find a better amp.

I use my 1090 amp portion, and I like it. Never heard a 1060, but am happy with the 1090. I use a Stan Warren FET buffer for the pre. The headphone out is
pretty nice also, the reason that I am using the 1090 and not my Pass Amp Camp class A or B&K ST-140. My speakers are efficient, remade Rectilinear Lowboys.
