Marantz 1122DC; a.c./d.c. switch

One of my recent aquisitions is a mint Marantz 1122DC int amp and matching 2100 tuner (with a matching 5000 tape deck thrown in for free 'cuz it "doesn't work"). Makes for a real pretty stack. :yes:
On the back of the amp is a switch that toggles between "a.c. coupling" and "d.c coupling"
What's that do?

What's that do?

DC is a hardwire coupling the pre-amp to the power amp, AC switches in a couple capacitors between the pre-amp and power amp.
DC--direct coupled
AC-- capacitor coupled

Hmmmm. Which would be preferable? What function would the caps perform?

My take is the DC will go all the way down to...ready? DC. Bass is in the low frequency and DC is as low as you can go.

AC, with the caps cut in, will "soften" the signal a bit. Caps block DC, they pass AC.

I think DC is prefered for audiophile purists, less hardware in the signal path so more of the pure signal gets though.

SO far, I haven't noticed a difference...I'm working on it.
