MARANTZ 1152 DC Question

Hey Guys,
I picked up a MARANTZ 1152 DC at a yard sale for $5 bucks! Problem is, i think one of the channels is out or at least something is causing one of the channels not to play and the balance slider knob is broken off. It still works but its missing the knob. Oh, and one of the smaller knobs is missing as well. What do you guys think of this amp and is it worth fixing up?? What kind of price do you think it will cost to fix it? (approx.)
Any ideas on where to send it for repairs? I live in Atlanta but i just don't know anybody in the business. I'm pretty good at parts swapping on circuit boards if it does not require expensive testing equipment. I have a pretty good ohm meter and such. I found a place where you can pick up a repair manual for that model for about $10 bucks, maybe i should give it a try?

That is a great integrated amp, 76 watts per channel into 8 ohms. If you read through the forums you will see that a common issue is the tape monitor switch being dirty, try pushing in and out or whatnot. next use a rca connector from pre out to main in, then swap left to right and see if the issue remains in the same channel. this will tell you if it is in the pre section or the main amp. The knobs for that can be costly just keep checking the bay and they will pop up.

He used to have resale value, but took it off. I printed it last year and this unit went from $100 in fair condition to $250 for like new and the box/manual.
If you have to dive into the unit get a schematic from servicemanuals.net, there are a lot of great techs on this board that can help you. Just follow proper electrical safety protocols.

Nice score.

Just one more thing to check.......
On the back of the unit is a slide switch marked AC and DC, on my 1152 occasionally will drop a channel or drop volume in one channel. Try moving this switch back and forth between AC and DC with the power off.......this trick works with my 1152 as the switch needs to be cleaned with deoxit.
This switch switches a pair of capacitors in and out between the pre-amp and power amp sections for AC coupling and DC coupling.
When I first connect the amp in a system I place the switch in AC mode for more protection, then when I am sure it is working correctly, change it to DC mode.
I do not find a great difference in quality between the two positions, but DC is supposed to be better.
Hope this helps, it works on mine!

Chuck
