Marantz 1152Dc volume control question:

I have a nice Marantz 1152DC Integrated Amp that works well. I have cleaned and lubed all the pots and sliders with DeOxit Faderlube, and any other control that "clicks" was cleaned up with DeOxit D-100. I like my music a bit on the loud side, and to get this amp to play the volume I like, I have to turn it up to the 11 or 12 O'clock position. Is this Normal ?

Most of my other quipment (Onkyo TX-6500 MKII, Onkyo A-10, Marantz 2252b, etc) will make your ears bleed at this setting-I only have to turn them up to the 9 O'clock position to get the speakers thumpin'.

I have checked the DC offset and its good - 0.15mV on Left, 0.10mV on right- and the unit doesn't get hot, so I was wondering if Marantz used a different volume contour than most other manufacturers.

My Marantz 1200 has similar characteristics in that volume increases very slowly up to about 12 o'clock and very rapidly after. I suspect that's the design objective so you can finely set the volume level when listening at low levels

Hello Kraut!

I used and enjoyed a 1152dc for a few years, and if two makes it normal then yep it's normal.

During jam sessions it might have gone creeping up over 12, sometimes, but I'll deny it :).

It's on my 'pieces I regret selling' list.

Thanks Guys!
This is the first piece of equipment I've had that worked this way, and I thought it a bit unusual. It is actually kind of nice having a little more room to play with on the volume control.
