Marantz 1180DC Volume Pot

Hello all,

I have a Marantz 1180DC integrated amp. It was lovingly restored by a very good technician about a year ago. That included replacing the speaker relay. In the last few months, the channels (sometimes left, sometimes right) have been cutting out at lower volume (below 50%). I have DeOxit'ed the volume pot and switches a few times, which does alleviate the problem for a short time, but it comes back. It can be very intermittent. The tech thinks it is likely a bad volume potentiometer. However, I have not been able to locate a replacement pot anywhere. There is a seller on EBay offering a rebuilt/redesigned version, but I have heard from several folks on these forums that the seller is not reputable/is a scammer. So, does anyone know where I might get a hold of a replacement/refurbished pot? I am by no means an audio technician, so be kind.

This probably is not your issue. On the 1180DC it has a PC board that is located behind & on top the mode control. It has a row of connections that will get stress cracks and cause channel issues. Desolding and adjusting, tightening up these connections and resoldering will fix this. A wire harness it attached onto the board at issue.
Also an all to common issue is the preamp to main amp connections on the back panel. Jumping them with a patch cord will solve this easily if it is the internal connections causing the issues. Sometime cleaning is not enough.

I have had the same issue with my 1180 DC.
With mine it's the AC/DC coupler switch on the back panel.
When it starts acting up,I flip that switch back and forth about 20 times and then it's good for 8 - 12 months. The cycle keeps repeating itself.
