Marantz 1250 - water damage?

thedruid

Greetings Earthlings
I've seen several listings from this seller & they caught my interest since they only live about 30 miles from me. Apparently they frequent yard/estate sales & then put items up on Ebay.

From the looks of this amp would you suspect water damage or electrical malfunction? I'm thinking water but they have the tuner to go with it and it appears to be in good shape.

Certainly been somewhere very damp. The pic of the back shows every screw corroded except 2 next to the speaker terminals, and one of those terminals looks crooked. FYI, the current high bidder is an AK member who specializes in Marantz repair, AFAIK.

My thoughts exactly. I noticed the crooked terminal too. I was thinking of bidding since I've recently got a place where I can set up my workshop again properly. But since it's a fellow AKer I'll pass and just deal with the projects I have on hand.

I wouldn't want this one if i got it for free!!!.

When switshed on please notify fire services :D

A lot of Florida owned receivers and amps look like that. Constant humidity and temperature changes will do that. I have two receivers that look that way but function quite well.

Be very careful. I've been repairing equipment in a seaside town for 35 years, and when I see a unit with that much rust I expect it will need a great deal of work to get running properly, and numerous follow-up repairs over the years. Units that look like that and are said to "work okay" despite not having been extensively serviced are flukes.

I'm not really interested in doing complete overhauls of equipment. Repairs, recaps, etc are one thing but a build from scratch takes much more time than I care to invest. But I'm sure if the right unit came along I could find the time, for my personal use only.

Well theres money in that unit just in parts alone. The front face looks good and everything seems to be there.

Mine is in top shape (technical) :D:D
