Marantz 140 Peak lights on and VU Pinning at power up.

Hi! I’ve had the same Marantz 140 for my entire life (mom purchased in 1975) and it’s never had issues. Recently, peaking lights started coming on at power up but the amp still played fine. Now peak lights illuminate and VU meters shoot to the right and speakers buzz very loudly. The amp still exhibits this behavior with inputs/outputs connected. The only recent change to my rig was the addition of a tape deck a few months back.
Thanks!

If you're lucky it's a bad ground. If you're not lucky there is DC on the output.
1. Disconnect your speakers.
2. Disconnect the cables from the input of the amp.
3. Do the meters peg when you turn it on? Both channels or just one?
4. If it's both channels you probably have a bad capacitor in the power supply.
