Marantz 170 DC questions

Hello,

I am wondering if I need this 170DC :scratch2:

I would like to know, from you owners of this 170DC, what do you think about this Marantz?

Sonically, is it good ?
What are the usual diseases: lamps, caps...? (I know there is no dial cord, it's a chance :D)
Are they difficult to repair: transistors or another component hard to find?

Thanks in advance for your answers !

..take the 2285B receiver's amp-circuits ad a pair of nice looking VU-Meters, a switch to short the input capacitor for 'DC-mode' = 170DC.
No problem to repair a 170DC, only that typical Marantz dual power supply capacitor can be a PITA.

Easy to repair for a Marantzoholic like us.

If the power transistors are blown wich one do you use then Helmut?

I know what i have to do but do you?

Just quirious.............. :smoke:

...because there are so many fake-transistors around, even distributors often don't know what crap they are selling, I use only ON-semi transistors from a reliable source. I always stock some MJ21195G/21196G also drivers MJE 15033/15034. These modern transistors may be overkill for a 100Watt amp but I never had problems with oscillation so far.

Good night, Helmut

When placing those on-semi's you have to make a little mod to adjust the bias otherwise the repaired channel get's to hot but my guess is you allready know that Helmut?

I've repaired quite a few 300DC and 170DC amps with Motorola 150xxx series output transistors without any problem. Great isolation between ECB when viewed on my component tester and oscilloscope. Much better that the originals.
Fake transistors are a very real problem. Chances are good that you won't get burned if you buy from reliable sources.

The 170DC is on the pipe... Now I have to :
- pay
- waaaaaaaaaait
- unpack
- test, clean, fix maybe, pray, swith on
- listen...
Mmm... Maybe I can pray right now.
