Anybody successfully restuff that big guy ( 2 - 12000 uf ) ? I will be recapping soon and was checking out some methods for replacing with 2 caps , but would sure be nice to keep the original look under the hood.

Haven't done that one but some others I've managed to stuff two in butt to butt and run leads around and out.

Trick is finding short enough new ones to fit them in

you can try to use a cap with same value, but higher voltage. the higher the voltage the bigger the size - I saw one that goes up to 450V - seems to have a similar size.

luck

I have used these.
30mm diameter and fit side by side :

Usually I up the voltage so that the cap fits in the existing clamp so it looks oem in non dual cap units.
When restuffing caps though upping the voltage results in caps too large to fit in the dual can.

This is my experience too. I would love to go up a rating step in voltage on these if possible!

So I assume buying one large can is just cost ineffective?? I've already ordered new caps and went with 2 , 12000 uf 63v. Had me thinking, why didn't I check the big boys??

There are two ways to go with in dealing with the dual cap in a single can:
Restuff them with 2 individual caps that will fit inside the existing can retaining the original appearance or mounting a new pair side by side that obviously may be somewhat larger .
Under no circumstances would I not renew them(even if they "test" ok) as almost all the ones I've gutted and restuffed have had burned/scorched emulsion and paper inside indicating imminent eventual failure.
