Marantz 170DC Problems ...

Hello,

It's my first post, hello all. Thanks for this wonderful forum.
As you can probably read i do not speak very well english, please excuse my mistakes.

I own a Marantz Preamp 1150 (working perfectly) with a Marantz 170 DC.

Everything worked fine until last evening, when I tried to power up the 170DC, impossible to get the amp working.

Symptoms are :
When I power up the Amp I can hear the first and familiar " CLIC " but he second " CLIC " sound never come and the amp does not work anymore.
It's not the fuse.

I went to a shop in order to get it fixed but the guy said it was too old they prefer trying to sell me a new one
I really like this amps

Anyone know common problems with Marantz 170DC ?
How can it be fixed ? Transistor ? What can I do ?
I know some people who can do the electronic work if I can tell them what to do.

It is in "protect" mode. Something crapped out. And you knew that.

Check the output transistors then the capacitors and rectifiers in the power supply.

Hello Louis,

The 1150 is a integrated amplifier so you use it as a preamp.
Sinds the 170 is not working just use the 1150 i would say.

What the problem with the 170 is i can not tell you. (no one can)

You have to find a good tech and they are getting scarce.

I can make a hundred suggestions what is wrong with the amplifier but that's from a distance.

Usually solderings are getting bad and when for instance one leg (out of three) is loose (FX a driver Tr)you have a problem.
DC is shifting to much and the relais wil not kick in etc etc..

Welcome to AK.
The second 'click' is the protection relay opening to protect your speakers. There is a defect in on or both channels.
The amp needs to be repaired.
Your tech feels that the repair is to time consumming to turn a profit.
Where are you located?
