Marantz 2015 Recapping Questions

This is my first post so please be brutal!

I have a Marantz 2015 and I am almost positive it needs to be recapped. I set it up next to my Pioneer sx-750 that has been recapped and it just doesn't sound as good.

So here are my questions (I've looked at the rest of the forum answers and could not find recent answers but feel free to point me to stuff)

1. Is there anyone in the NYC area who is trusted to do this and can do it for under $150? I found one person but its going to be at least $250 just to do a basic (not full - no phono or tuner) recap. I believe this person deserves every penny based on their skills but its a little out of what I personally feel comfortable spending right now

2. How hard is this to do myself really? Like I have some very basic soldering skills that I could probably brush up on and a very basic understanding of electronics. This just seems like I could easily screw this up and then have a brick or pay way more to get it fixed. I've seen lots of kits but not sure what the quality is really like. If I do decide to go down this route, is there a kit that is recommended

The kits from eBay seller “peace.love.and.music” are well regarded and seller is a longtime AK member. No affiliation

Getting the main board P600 up to work on it is a bit tricky for the inexperienced. The wires to the pins are short and little room to work has been my experience. Alway cover tuner dial string with foil when working with a soldering iron in close proximity.

it’s doable if you take your time and be careful.

You can get your stereo work cheap, fast, or done well. Pick one or maybe two. You’re not likely to get cheap AND done well.

If you want to order from Mouser or wherever, here are the ORIGINAL VALUES found in the 2015. I haven't used this one in a bit, everything is accurate but there may be a part or two I'd add now not shown. It doesn't include tuner caps and I wouldn't do the tuner if I were you. Many do but probably best for someone new to avoid that at first.

I have a 2015 sitting in my home office, it's a great little unit.
 
Recapping the 2015 is certainly not a bad idea. However, comparing it's 15wpc against the 750's 50wpc, you still might enjoy the Pioneer more, depending on your tastes. It certainly is no slouch!

With Efficient speakers 15WPC is plenty. Pioneer and Marantz have a bit of a different sound and in this case, the 2015 is Cap Coupled so it and the Pioneer will indeed sound different even if both are restored.
 
For some cost perspective. I recently restored a 2015 and the parts cost after shipping was nearly $100 including transistors to repair a tuner that would not lock in FM stations. I upgraded the power supply and filter caps a bit... I easily had 5 hours into the replacement of parts and the troubleshooting of the tuner section, but I'm a fairly slow amateur.
 
Just my experience but I found working on the 2010 and 2015 "baby" Marantz models more difficult than the 22XX series due to the compact nature of the design. Everything is really crammed in tight with not much room to work. Basically they had to take all of the components of a 2215 and fit them in to the significantly smaller chassis and cabinet of the 2015.....YMMV
