I recently bought KSC1845FTA transistors to replace on my P500 board to hopefully get rid of the hiss. Any pointers replacing them? I read a thread somewhere about polarity or making sure they are installed the correct way because sometimes the board labeling is wrong? Any help would be appreciated!

If you are looking at the flat face of the KSC1845FTA, left to right is emitter, collector, base - ECB. The 2SC458 should be the same, but it kind of looks like it has two flat faces. But the board is marked correctly for ECB. Also, there is a flat line across one side of the circle that marks the transistor on the board. It helps orient the flat face of the new transistor. But it is essential that the orientation be correct on all transistors. If you haven't done a lot of component replacing on PC boards, be careful. You can overheat things and cause more trouble than you fix. There is a technique to removing components.
 
If that replaces a **1845** on your board, and your system is functioning, the orientation is correct as it is on the board. There are three legs. The body has a curved edge and a flat edge. Be sure that the orientation is the same. Perhaps there is a stenciled outline on the board to help you to determine the orientation.

What technique? I have a good soldering iron, solder sucker, and a solder braid. Always looking for guidance...
 
If you have solder braid and sucker you are good to go. On the lower power units, I usually leave the boards in place if I can reach everything from the bottom. If not, remove the screws and flip the board. You might have to release a wire or two to do that. Good luck!
