Marantz 2225

Since I'm new to all this can some one help me out here, I found a guy asking $150 for a Marantz 2225, it looks like it's in really good shape, and he says it works great.

It would be a 2 hour drive for me to pick it up, worth it or should I wait and try to find something closer to me. Round trip it would be a 5 hour drive total.

There are quite a few completed sales for 2225 on ebay. Unserviced ones sell for between 150-200. Serviced units are between 300-400.

I think 150 is an OK price but not a steal. If I was looking for a Marantz receiver in my area (there are very few locally) I would drive 2 hours to get one before buying one from ebay and trusting fedex, ups, usps, etc not to destroy it in shipping

yeah 5 hours is a long drive for me, guess I'll just keep looking closer to home.

thanks for the feedback guy's.

I dunno, they only made so many of those. People take a two hour drive to go to an amusement park and ride rides and got nothing to show for it.

My sister has one of those. Works well but the dial string is broken and most of the lights are out. After hearing it on a pair of Boston Acoustics A-70s, it will never be for sale. I hooked up a tuner so she can change stations.

I am not necessarily saying go buy it, but the thing is whether you think a similar or better deal is going to come up closer. What I am saying is that there are not all that many of them out there.

And at least right now gasoline is cheap.

$150.00 is a fair price for both buyer and seller. If it has the wood case, it's a pretty darn good deal for you. And don't forget condition, condition, condition.

The wood cases go for about $150 I think. If it has that, buy it, sell the wood part and have a free receiver.

+1 on the wood case. If it has that $150 is a great deal.
I am so used to buying them without the cases I don't even think about it anymore. Out of the 8 Marantz I have owned none of them have had wood cases

I sent him a email, he sold within 3 hours of posting it on CL :(
My goal it nothing to big, maybe a Marantz 2220 or 2225 and a nice turntable and some nice vintage speakers. something for my living room.

What part of the country are you in? Someone here probably knows of a deal near you.

For instance there is a 2238 by me for 75 bucks right now. I picked up a 2226 last year for 75. Got a smaller 2215 for 50 bucks. There are deals out there.

I wish there was a 2238 by me for $75, I would be all over that. I just can't wait, my goal is a receiver and turntable and a couple really nice looking vintage speakers.

I really like the sound of records, and the look of Marantz, the wife is on board too I just gotta watch how much I spend lol we just bought our first house 4 months ago.

haha, yeah I went hunting yesterday, 6 Goodwill's 1 Thrift Store and 2 flea markets, nothing :( I was able to find a guy online with a 4220 Quad in wood cab, he responded saying he has it, but not how much he wants for it yet.

but I was looking for a 2220 or 2225 or 2238, haven't done any research yet on the 4220 Quad.
