marantz 2226 no lights

Marantz 2226 has no lights. The fuses are fine and the conections seem to be okay. I find it hard to believe all lights are toast. I bought it thinking "just fuse and maybe a few bulbs". No big deal. I cant find the issue. Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

The sound of this little beast is sweet! It is more foreard than both my 2230 and 2252b. Am i nuts for liking the sound of this receivers sound better than the higher power units? It sounds fantastic driving my Rogers studio 1a speakers. It makes them much more forward than any other amp I own. Which is good to me because they can be a bit subdued and distant with other power amps or receivers I own that have more power. I love this old Marantz stuff. Huge bang for the buck!!

She was a bit dusty when I brought it home. Looks like it was stored in a dryer vent:yes:

This model is almost the same as my 2238.
Take some measurement on the power supply board (P800), across pins J802/803. It should be around 8V AC. If no, check those two pins, wires on them, solder points... If it is all ok and there isn't a voltage, trafo's winding fail. If there is a voltage and lamps still doesn't lit, check the fuse, fuse holder, then pins J812/J813 on the same board. Go on to the lamps board pins JZ11/JZ12. Check the pins, solder joints... check the lamp's board (PZ01).

I have seen receivers with all the bulbs out. It would make it seem like another problem though!

I had one with the same problem and it was just the fuse.

For the 2226, I’m assuming the fuse blown on F802 would be a likely reason for no lights?

My 2226 came with all the lights out. I thought the same as you, it must be a fuse but testing voltage proved it was all the bulbs. I figured someone just ran it until it went dark.

They are all new bulbs, the fuse sitting just above F802 is totally fried, I just put it the there to keep track, none of the lights worked, I changed all of them, and nothing. My first thought was to locate the fuses, and there it was. Everything‘s closed so I’m gonna have to wait until the morning to go yet.

Yep, F802 supplies, meter, pointer, stereo and back lighting, basically all lighting so start with replacing F802 then post which lamps are/are not working. Q806 may have gone south for the stereo indication

Yup, that was it. I replaced both since I’m already in there. Thanks much for your input. Since I have your attention , what’s the easiest way to get to the stereo lamp, is there a thread? Thanks again buddy!

I didn’t find anything on the stereo light, so I’ll just leave this here. The stereo light is glued into its own compartment, the light itself is glued into its own bracket, the bracket is soft bendable plastic and pried out with a razor and regular knife. Wiggle the light out and then back through the hole. The pics explain it better.

Likewise, best to wait for one of the marantz gurus.
Service manual shows 7Vdc at J812 that feeds the stereo lamp. This is a series connection (not to GND) the power feed then goes on to the tuner stage. So need to get the lamp volt drop right so you don't upset the voltage at the tuner stage.

Anything printed on the bulb?

searching 2226 stereo lamp suggests the replacement off the bay is an 8Vdc LED kit, ie, a LED and a series resistor so that Vf + Vr = 8Vdc abouts

No, maybe I wasn’t clear. I replaced all of the lights including the stereo light. I was just showing how you have to cut the light bracket from the frame. It looks awesome.
