Marantz 2226B

Greeting, I recently picked up a Marantz 2226B for a steal. After cleaning it up and playing it few times I noticed the right channel would cut out and sometimes come back, but usually not. So I did some research and it looks like I have two bad caps on the Main Amp/Power supply board (P700). I searched the web and could not find an equivalent cap for C718 which, if I am correct has something to do with the right channel. I found a local supplier who gave me a 220uf 50V 20% and said it would be fine to use in place of the required 220uf 35V 50, -10% cap. Can anyone verify this. I would hate to use it and ruin the receiver. Thanks.

Yes ,using a 220uf 50v in place of a 220uf 35v will be perfectly fine.

The higher voltage spec for the cap means it would run much longer at 35 vdc. The Marantz deserves a total recap due to age. The 2226b is too good not to do it. Nice SM, schematic and PCB layouts are good.

Considering your symptoms, before replacing or buying any components I would do the following first:
1- clean TAPE Monitor switch
2- clean Pre-out / Main-in bypass at the back of the unit. How? Turn the unit OFF, spray contact cleaner inside all four connectors and workout regular RCA plug several times.
Marantz has internal switch in those, I had quite a few issues with them.
3- clean main selector switch

If non of these works than look further.

Best to follow Mico's advice. Diagnose and fix any problems first. Just blindly throwing capacitors into it may make any problems un-diagnoseable.
