Marantz 2226BL Hiss and Hum on Phono

Hello, I am new to this forum.

I recently bought a receiver Marantz 2226BL.
I have been told that it is the same as 2226B, except that it has LW radio besides AM and FM and I heard it is very rare.

The problem I am having with it is that the phono has a hissing noise when there's nothing connected to it, like a radio hiss between stations.

And when I connect my turntable to it, it makes a hum noise as if the ground wasn't connected, even though it is.
And when I touch the RCA connectors with my hands, even though the connectors are plastic, the hum gets louder.

The Aux and Tape are silent.

I have basic understanding of electronics but I want to take my receiver to a technician. But there are lots of crook technicians in my country so I wanted you experts to give me an idea of what could be wrong so that I can tell the technician to check the specific parts if possible, so that he will see that I am not any ignorant woman who has no idea of what's going on and not think he can fool me to pay more for things he shouldn't even be checking, if that makes sense.

I have a 2226B which does the same thing and this is not uncommon at all. You can simply install some RCA Shorting plugs to cap off the inputs - Chris

I can't do that as the turntable will be connected to the phono.

The hiss should go away when a turntable is connected to the jacks.

Having the jacks open (nothing connected to them) should be the only time the hiss occurs - Chris

I do not think that this is normal.

Sometimes turntable location can create the hum, especially with all the electronics that are in use today, try moving the turntable to see if the hum changes Have you tried the turntable on another unit just to make sure the table isn't the problem? An incorrect wired or bad cartridge can also cause the hum. good luck and welcome to AK Rich

No, I haven't tried my turntable on another amplifier/receiver. I don't know anyone who has one with phono input.
Is there any other way for me to determine that?

Is the bottom cover still on the unit? Most Marantz receivers will hum and be sensitive to touching when in phono mode if the bottom cover is removed. It acts as a shield for the phono board.

I do not really know, but there must be a way with a meter to verify the turntable and cartridge, hopefully, someone more knowledgeable them myself will chime in. There is a vinyl forum that might be of help. Good luck Rich

Yes, all covers are on.
The receiver is in near new asthetic condition.
