Hi everyone,
I’m almost done with the restoration of a Marantz 2230. It sounds beautiful, I tried several things and finally found the combination that I like the most to my ears.
When reassembling, I noticed that the volume pot feels a bit loose. I tightened the nut on the front panel, but the play is inside the pot itself. Maybe it became looser after removing the knob, or maybe the original damping grease was washed out during cleaning.
Electrically it works fine, no noise or dropouts at all. It’s just the mechanical feel that bothers me a little.
What do you think could be done with this pot?
Is it possible to fix it by opening the pot (although I know that carries a big risk)?
Should I just leave it as it is?
Or could I add some damping grease from the front of the shaft to improve the feel?
Maybe I’m just being obsessive here, since I’m at the final tweaks of the restoration... but I’d like to hear your opinions before I make a mistake.
Thanks in advance!
