Marantz 2230 Custom Wood Cabinet

Here’s a photo of a homemade housing I’m working on for my Marantz that I found in the trash last summer, believe it or not. It’s roughed out at the moment. I intend to replace the original grill, which is flimsy, with something more substantial. I am considering using a light coloured veneer rather than the walnut, cherry and other veneers usually seen on WC-22 units. Maybe a light birch? Will see.

Following. I'm in the process of determining how to make two wc-22 cabinets. I have the plans downloaded from the wc-22 plan thread here. I will use 3/4" mdf.

Still a bit confused about the molding on the front. Looks like the originals glued the molding on then veneered over the seam. I'm using mahogany to match the tritrix tl speakers i built. Birch or maple would look nice.

I think the perforated original metal mesh was 1/8" holes on staggered 3/16" spacing. It can be had in 14 or 16 gauge. A bit pricey with shipping.

Almost done with the custom WC 22 type case. Solid wood and white birch veneer. Custom aluminum vent grill. The front facia moldings are solid, made using a router and sanding block, a few adjustments and then finish to be added. Have to decide on the finish, clear coat most likely. I like the light colour as opposed to the original walnut. 8F71342A-9CEF-4E60-876E-20E271DA8488.jpeg

I like the support you did for the top vent at the back edge - I had an original I bought new and the flimsy-ness of the rear edge always was annoying... Very nice job!
