Pat...Did you also try the Mundorf EVO/Alum Oil for Phone?

I have just put the Mundorf EVO/Alum Oil (1060 Phone) and going thru Burn-In.

Going to order some Sonicaps GenII to try these out.
 
Joe, I used the Gen II's as they are very sweet sounding and a great compliment to the EVO's on the preamp. These really let you hear what the EVO's are doing upstream.

With the "fat browns" on phono the sound is very very good, with the Gen II's you can now easily hear through the soundfield to the back walls etc.

EVO's at least 50-100 hrs break in

Gen II's not much time needed, but as you know they will open up a little more as time goes by.

By any means the Fat Browns need not be replaced if that is what you have on board. For those who want a little bit more the EVO's and Gen II's sound amazing and are a nice fit and install and they are not "mad money" caps.

On my 2270, the phono big 50V .47uf film caps made by Yamato. They are very similar to orange drops, glossy bright orange. Do you have any formed opinion how those compare with other originals?

I have not had the pleasure of coming across these yet, so I have not been able to give them a listen. They sure look good though!

So I got this back from Pat about a week ago, and have had a couple of opportunities to use it. I don't necessarily know or at least understand all that was done to this thing, but I can attest to it producing beautiful sound! Thanks again Pat, and I am looking for a 2285 for you to do the same magic to! Even playing digital files (ipod/laptop) without a DAC, it is superior to any integrated amp I have tried using the same speakers. Even Mrs. Stupidhead was pleased!

I have read your posts with great interest as I am looking at re-capping the tone board from my 3200. I am interested to know what your thoughts are regarding comparisons between the Sonicap GEN I & GEN II, Mundorf EVO's and the Mundorf M-Cap Supremes? I realise the Supremes are about three times the cost, but are they three times better than the Sonicap?

Hi Tony, I actually have a 3200 on it's way to me now. I am almost positive that the pre board is the one that is upside down and needs to be flipped over, kind of like the PE01 style. If so space is very limited. The Supremes are for me as good as they are too large to be practically installed. Not only that it requires a hand drill to enlarge the circuit pads to even get it installed, the leads are of a very robust diameter. I will let you know when it gets here and what will work. Maybe I will post the rebuild.:music:

FYI I like the Gen II's and the EVO Alum/Oil

You are correct the tone board is upside down, although there is some room under it. I will be keen to see what you do to the 3200 you have coming.

I'd like to hear one of these hot rod 2230s. I didn't even use caps that nice in my Fisher 500C.
