Marantz 2230 vs. 2245

Fellow AK'ers, I am facing a great quandary; I have a recently acquired Marantz 2230, which I took to my service guy for a general look-over, cleaning, and minor repair on a couple tuner lights. When I dropped off the 2230, he told me that he knew of a 2245 which was for sale. Based upon the price he told me, I am confident I could sell the 2230 for enough to cover the cost of the 2245.

My question is: Should I hand onto the 2230, or take advantage of the 2245? I understand that the 2245 will have more power, but everything I've heard about 2230's is positive. Apparently Marantz hit it out of the park with the 2230, and I'm wondering if they did the same with the 2245, or if I should just stick with what I've got.

Well, it depends on which speakers your will pair with. I myself don't really like Marantz amp/receiver very much. Its boom bass often make me feel tired but being asked 2230 or 2245. I would say: 2230.

The 2245 is my favorite receiver. Both the 2230 and 2245 have that sweet warm marantz sound. Soundwise i think either would be good ,but power wise the 2245 can handle a lot more speakers

Had a lot of Marantz 2200 series receivers from the 2230 up to and including the 2335b, the 2245 is the only one I've kept. It has a much better tuner than the 2230 and personally I prefer the direct coupled amp section (although the woolier sounding cap coupled 2230 amp is nice too). It's got a nice uncluttered preamp without all the Dolby nonsense or unnecessary tone controls, just the basics. I like it more than its big brother the 2270 (had a few of those and didn't really care for them much). I'd say go for it if you can swing it, just beware that no matter what you get it's going to need service on some level.
