Marantz 2238b crackle and pop

Hey guys. What's up?

I bought a Marrantz 2238b reciver from this guy and it sounds great. The problem I have with it is that every once in a while it starts with this quiet crackle and then a few powerful pops. This happens on the left speaker and even when the volume is off. I went to get it repaired but the guy didn't really fix it. I would love to know some more about the problem so I could tell a technician whats going on (the techs I know don't really know how to fix these problems, I went to this one guy who changed some pots and said that would fix it but obviously it didn't).

You should start by cleaning all of the controls carefully. If the problem persists it is likely that the receiver needs to have the capacitors replaced. - Chris

hey, welcome to AK....
1) pots can be cleaned (http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-idiots-guide-to-using-deoxit-revisited.207005/) and hardly ever need changing.
2) crackle and pops can also come from aging transistors.

try first a cleaning of all pots and switches, good luck !
