Gotta give this guy credit, he establishes his price and near as i can tell on CL, he sticks to it until the item is sold. Possibly he does accept less in person, but on CL the prices never drop (or rarely enough that I haven't see it).

Marantz 2238B - $450
He always says "fully serviced" and I think that's accurate given this~
"completely gone through and serviced....all pots cleaned, all circuit boards were washed....all lights changed out, ...completely detailed inside and out......works 100 % and has a great phono input".

He has explained in the past that he doesn't change caps\transistors as he's of the group that is of the opinion that if you can't hear it, it's still good and old OEM caps are what the unit should have.

I basically agree with this. If it ain't broken don't fix it. I have a few 70's era receivers/integrated amps that are all original component wise.
All of the tube stuff I have I have had to replace at least the PS caps. They were obviously failing. With SS gear and the lower voltages the components might last alot longer. Maybe when that stuff gets to be as old as the tube gear there will be more failures though

yeah, hard to argue with the "if you can't hear problems, it's OK" - but since I'm capable and have the tools to refurbish (caps\transistors), I do it. But I can see where you're coming from.

That's way high on a 2238B. Heck, that's high for a 2252B as far as I know. Three pictures, none of which are that good, and then a bunch of pics of his other stuff. I personally was not that impressed with the sound of mine, and I sold mine at well under what he's asking.

Yeah I definitely don't see anything wrong with it. I have two Marantz 1060 and would like to recap one to see if I could hear the difference.

If I didn't work with electronics for a living I would probably spend more time working on my own audio gear. Lol

Supposedly they sound incredibly better and have a lot more power when you recap them, and there are a bunch of caps you can increase the values on too. Google "Marantz 1060 rebuild" and a couple threads will pop up.

For the Marantz receivers that I do use, I try to at least recap the power supply so that you can count on stable current and not have something there fail, and take out a bunch of components....the seller made such a general sweeping statement...

I sure like mine. It's quite the looker with a wood case. Although I paid a LOT less.
