Marantz 2240 vs Pioneer SX-828 Receivers

That Marantz doesn't have enough buttons. I like my 2275.
He has that one and a 2285, both restored, the latter in the three-piece suit of walnut.

Looking back at this thread the Marantz 2240 is selling for 450-760 on the bay and the Pioneer is fetching 100-500 these days. Prices have changed from then the OP was looking at these in the 120-140 range, 13 years ago. But the 2240 had no wood and that was an extra 100 or so back then.

I can get the Marantz 2240 for $140,good shape no wood case.
The Pioneer SX-828 can be had for $120 also in nice shape.
What say you folks?:saywhat:
I'm leaning towards the Marantz even though the Pioneer has more power at 50W per channel and is $20 less, just cause I've always wanted a Marantz.

agree with @hatrack71. the X2X series of Pioneer units are older. The Marantz 2240 will have a warmer sound. If you want Pioneer's best effort, sort of need to step into the SX-1050, SX1250 or higher range.

I disagree. I like the older stuff across the board, except for a few HKs, such as the 330, 430, 730. Those are good up to 1976. I love the Pioneer 770, my SX9000, and have acquired a 939 on a trade. 1050, 1250, 1280, 1980, gaudy additions of the power wars imo.

That is fine, as long as you like what you have.

Anybody who has listened to the 770 would have good things to say about it. Now, the sx 9000 is a beast. Take a look at the Era, the year it was built. Pioneer, Sanusi, and others cheaped out heading into the mid 70s and especially on into the power wars. By the 80s, junk. Video killed the radio star and that was that.
