Marantz 2240 + Yamaha RX-A720

Hey all, I'm new to the vintage world of receivers.

Im wondering - i just picked up a Marantz 2240 and was hoping to run my cassette deck and turntable + front speakers off the Merantz, but i also game in the same area, and only have 1 set of speakers. 2 front, 1 centre, 2 rears, and 2 sub woofers.

My question is, can i mix the units? I have the 2 main speakers hooked up to the Marantz, but have my CD player hooked up to the AVR.

How can i send sound from the AVR to the Marantz? Or am i supposed to send sound from the Marantz to the AVR?

When i hook up the RCA cables to the zone2 out on the Yamaha, and put them in the AUX or any other input on the Marantz, i get no sound.

Please help.

You are in an either or set-up. The 2240 is from the 1970's, it is stereo/ 2 channel. You could use the speaker switch, A for fronts and B for rears. No center or subs. Is there a tape loop in the AVR, if so then run tape out to line in on the 2240.

there is no tape out. There is audio out, and zone2 out only on the Yamaha.

Basically i want to be able to listen to music through only the front speakers on the Marantz - but lets say if i want surround sound for gaming, i would want all speakers to operate including the front which would be wired to the stereo receiver. Or if i listen to CDs which have an optical in to the Yamaha, but access the front speakers on the marantz.

The problem is, if i use zone2 out to AUX on the marantz, i get no sounds. No matter what out i use on the yamaha, nothing plays on the marantz. Only direct hookups to the marantz are working.

almost seems the Yamaha should have front preouts in order to make this work?

I figured ill use the preout on the Marantz like a preamp - and i plugged that into an input on the Yamaha - and just plugged the analog components into the Marantz.
