Marantz 2245 phono static/hum

I have just bought my first vintage receiver, a beautiful marantz 2245! It is hooked to a U turn orbit turntable and a pair of Klipsch RB 61 bookshelfs along with a Polk sub.
I love the sound of the setup, but am getting a pretty good amount of hum or static from the phono stage. This occurs no matter if the turntable is hooked up or not. I assume I may need to ground the receiver but cannot ground to the U turn as they are self grounded and not designed to accept a grounding wire.
Should I just ground my receiver to an AC outlet ground? Do I have a problem with the phono stage?
Thanks in advance.

I plugged in the TT to the back of receiver and it may have helped a little. The sub being included doesn't seem to matter.
I just hope there is not something wrong with the phono inputs on the receiver as I just bought it, but it is an old vintage receiver.

That is correct. Only on the phono. The sound is different if the TT is hooked up though. It is more of a static at high levels of volume with nothing hooked up more of a hum with the TT hooked up.

The 2245 phono section is known to have transistor issues with the originals thats probably the problem. Im not a tech guy but im sure one will chime in soon and can give you some advice.

congratulations on your first vintage receiver , the 2245 was my first receiver but it wasnt considered vintage when i got it in 1975 :), its also my favorite. If yours is still original its probably due for some servicing and maybe a recap, the electrolytic capacitors have limited life and 40+ years is getting up there.

i just noticed this thread is in solid state maybe why no one has chimed in, you would have better luck posting this in the marantz forum, maybe you can get a Moderator to move it
