Marantz 2245 wooden case question...

I picked up a marantz 2245 today, and it's my first marantz with a wooden case. My question, it also has the metal case under the wooden case. Is it common to use both? I thought the metal lid was left off when using the wood.

I have seen them come both ways and even had a thread about whether or not the metal cover was deleted when buying a new Marantz and a wood case together from the dealer.

I'm thinking with the higher power Marantz's it let's them run cooler when inside a wood case and no metal cover.

For the lower wattage units, yours included,I don't think it really matters unless you have them inside a closed stereo cabinet with no ventilation.

Thanks! I'll think I'll leave it off anyway. By the way, I'm thinking about using it as a pre-only. You all feel it makes a decent pre?
