Marantz 2250B buzzing sound

Hi
My Marantz 2250B just started making a buzzing sound at higher volume levels. You dont notice it at 25% or less but if i turn it to aux or tape and turn the volume 50% you hear the buzz and of course full volume you hear it louder. I tried cleaning it with contatc cleaner but the buzz is still there. Any of ideas?

Welcome to AK!!

My first guess would be an old electrolytic cap has died. Being way past their service life, they are going to go bad here and there. If you have soldering skills, I'd recommend replacing all of them in the power supply as a starting point.

Well before changing the caps, I noticed 2 things. 1. if I played with the main in pre out jacks the buzzing along with the music would cut out. If I had rca plugs into the main in jacks only the buzz would go away. 2. Earlier I had to replace the fuse for the lamps. I thought maybe a bad solder job could be causing it, I noticed if I removed the fuse the buzz would go away along with the lights, but when I resolder it back the buzz comes back. Even with jumpers the noise would come back.

Before I start to re cap I was wondering if any of this is the cause of the buzzing

Maybe there's a lot of corrosion on the outer shells of the jacks of your sources? Unplug all inputs such as CD players and turntables and see if the buzz is still there. If not, then use a fine metal polish such as Flitz brand to clean them up. If so use some RCA cables temporarily at least to connect the pre outs to the amp ins which maybe is what you meant by using "jumpers". If that fixes it then a quick burst of DeOxit into the center hole and plugging in and out of each jack 20-30 times may clean them and be a remedy.

By the way, this is with the bottom cover on? If it's off there will be a buzz.

Ive tried to clean them up as best i can but it still doesnt make the buzz go away, what about the lamp fuse? when I remove the fuse the buzz goes away.

Well, that places AC voltage on wires that could be then picked up somehow. How loud is the buzz at 50% say? There's always a small amount of buzz with an unterminated input. The noisiest input is the phono due to the extra gain involved. To that end you could rig up some shorting plugs if you had some raw unwired plugs or an old cable that could be sacrificed.
