Marantz 2252 intermittent static bursts.

When I forget to power off my receiver, after 8 hours or so I get bursts of noise out of the left channel speaker.
When I turn it off for a couple of hours and play the record deck through it it's just fine again. Any thoughts? I've always had bad experiences in the end with devices that heal themselves.

Cross connect the preamp out to main amp in RCA jacks on the back with a pair of patch cords (swap left and right on one end). If the issue moves to the other speaker the issue is in the preamp, but if it stays in the same speaker it is the main amp. If it is in the main amp, the first thing I would suspect is the differential amplifier pair of transistors at the input of the main amp.

Pls let me know how you fixed this. I have the same problem with a 2220 and a 2220B that I am too afraid to use because of the love I have for my speakers.

this is an excelent suggestion - isolating the problem is the first step in a proper diagnosis. I'll try to remember this tip. As a beginner, I wish there was a compendium of diagnostic methods and processes to follow when trying to repair vintage gear.
