MARANTZ 2252B - Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Howdy y'all,

I'm in a bit of a quandry with ma Marantz 2252B and whether I should sell her.

I've got a number of vintage receivers and the Marantz is not being used.
The following is a list of what I got:

Sansui 9090
JVC JR-S501
Sherwood S9910
Marantz 2285
Sony STR-7065A
Marantz 2252b

My most recent purchase was the Sony and having compared it to the 2252B as they have similar power ratings and I thought they would sound similar but Nooooo, the Sony spanks it in to orbit and is currently what I'm listening to all the time, I love it and is now in the office being played to death.
I've got my eye on a Pioneer SX-D5000 and a JVC JR-S600(definite buy) so looks like the Marantz is gonna get pushed out. Would be sad to see it go but at the same time I'm having kittens as vintage Marantz receivers in the UK are gold dust.
So I ask my fellow AKers what should I do?
All replies appreciated.

As with any gear vintage or current, how it sounds to you is what is most important.
I picked up my 2252B, cleaned her out, did a led upgrade, had it serviced by AK's JBLMAR, and is currently in my main rig.
I don't think I will sell this on just yet though...I am still in love with the classic Marantz sound.

Just my two cents...

Don't get me wrong I love the sound of 2252B it was my first ever marantz and I had to jump through hoops to get hold of her.

Maybe I was a bit hasty in comparing the Sony to her and saying it spanked the Marantz. To my ears the Sony just sounds better.
The 2285 is staying till my last breath.

If you like the 2285, I can see where you might feel the 2252B may be redundant...

If possible, do a comparison with the same source material and speakers of the 2252B, 2285 and the STR 7065A. That may help you decide which Marantz is the keeper.

I have the Marantz 2245, 52B, 70, and of these three, I would sell the 52B before the 45. The sound of the 45 is totally different the the 52B and the 70. The 45 is warmer and a bit more detailed in the mids than the 52B.

Again, this is to my ears...others may disagree.

well, just an opinion obviously - you obviously do not lack for receivers, if it is something that is not going to be used, sell it and either use the money to recap one that you are using a lot or buy another piece of gear (hmmm, a tube buffer maybe ? ).
Unless you are a collector, no point in having a garage full of audio gear.

My 2252b sent my 2285b to another home. I'm running a pair of klh 5's with it right now and love the combo. If you get rid of the 2252b you'll no doubt regret the decision at some point in time.
