Marantz 2265 volume cuts out?

Hello I have a Marantz 2265 purchased off eBay and the volume will cut out at some volume levels. The guy i bought it off said it was most likely the relay and sent me a new one with the purchase. That being said it dosent seem to be the problem any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I've got the tape and speaker switches as clean as I can with deoxit d-5 and still the same results.

Could be simple, could be a problem
process of elimination

I assume that you dis-assembled the unit to gain access to the inside where you sprayed the d-oxit per instructions?

Does it always drop out at the same place in the volume?
Both channels?
with headphones?
all inputs?
with different speakers?
with connecting the speakers to speaker B?

one more question
At what volume level does it occur?

It seems to drop out around I guess you would say at 4 or quarter the way and yes all output even the headphones. It's got me scratching my head for sure.
 
Does it return later on in the volume...say at 5?

Does the volume return if you turn it back down?

put the balance to full one side...same?

you did d-oxit the volume control?

Yes I used deoxit on the volume. I also tried one side and then the other and sadly same results
 
sounds like the volume pot

with power off, measure the volume pot ohms and see if it drops out

hit it with deoxit from inside the case again. flood it! there are small opening you can find to get the stuff inside the control

Then pick up the whole unit and 360 degree it to get the d-oxit everywhere in the control
slowly work the control back and forth, never do it fast or aggressive

that concludes the easy stuff...

So this came out of the volume pot and I wouldn't believe it if I didn't live it but problem seems to be solved. I owe you a cold one thank you so much for everything.

I know what its like, vintage audio can be a challenge
I recall when I first learned which end of a soldering iron to hold

I am concerned as to what the debris is?

Probably the shipping experience played a part in dislodging or maneuvering the object into the control path and the flood and 360 washed it clear
This pot is clean

The original owner/seller will be relieved

Well I'm given her a 4 hour bench test and no problem's so far as far as the gunk it looks to be food ? Very strange regardless thank you thank you I'm very happy I came across this great site. And a great super hero lol.
 
Just my 2 cents, just about every receiver I purchased had a similar symptom where either one or both channels dropped out.
Since you cleaned the switches, try tapping the relay with your fingers to see if the sound returns.
