Hello!
As I am constantly on the lookout for nice vintage audio equipment, I got into the position to buy myself both a Marantz 2265 and a Quad 34+405 for cheap as both the Quad 34 and the Marantz 2265 were in need of a recap. The Quad 405 was already serviced some years ago and was in good shape. I have recapped the Quad 34 and found out that one of the op-amps has turned bad as well. Now, I have ordered new op-amps (better to replace them all at once I think, so ordered the whole bunch) and the new Nichicon caps for the Marantz. Assuming I get both the Quad and the Marantz to fully function, it would mean that I have to chose between one of the sets. I could actually not resist buying both amplifiers as I was really curious about hearing these iconic amplifiers.
Now I have the 'luxurious' dilemma of which one to keep after I have serviced them. Of course I will do a elaborate listening test for comparison, but as I am still waiting for that to happen, I was wondering if any members at Audiokarma have experience with one of the amplifiers or both and are willing to share their opinions and arguments on which one to chose over the other. Looking forward to your comments!
