Marantz 2265B - AUX Being Heard in Phono

Hi, I just bought a used 2265B. Overall, sounds great, works great. One thing I noticed when I was trying it out... I had my computer audio going into AUX and was listening to the playback. When I switched it from AUX to Phone 1 AND 2, I could still hear the AUX audio coming through. It was decreased volume (and quality), but I could hear it, which seems weird. I don't really care because I'll never think to listen to two things at once, but wanted to ask in case this is indicative of a larger issue?

Two sources playing at the same time was not an expected “use case” back in the day and if it was considered, they opted for the cheaper route of not isolating the signal lines enough to block the inherent EMF between lines.

Phono, being sensitive because of the extra amplification involved to bring cartridge voltage up to line level, tends to pick up stray EMF easily. With no TT connected to the Phono jacks, when you select phono, you have a crude EMF microphone system in play.

What you describe is called cross talk. It’s not uncommon in gear that is not designed and built to eliminate it. The easiest way to eliminate it, is to avoid it. Only have one source playing at a time. And never expect a phono input to be quiet if no turntable is properly connected. Meaning both audio lines and the ground strap.

Just today I had a service call back because he didn’t know how to connect the ground line on the turntable and had a hum. The interesting part is the guy is a licensed electrician. But I guess he never grew up on vintage, so never knew the connections.

If you feed the aux input from a source that would normally feed headphones, you will see the issue. The input selector switch shorts un-selected inputs, but with a headphone signal feeding the aux input the source impedance is too low for the short to kill all the audio. The headphone amplifier output impedance is likely less than 10 ohms, and a normal line level impedance would be over several hundred ohms.
 
question to you all, I have Marantz 2265B. I'm using phono 1 as my turntable.
My cartridge is MM ortofon black. Is phono 2 using as MC? OR do I need to add Phono preamp?

There is only one actual phono preamp in the 65B and every other receiver I've ever seen. So there is just extra input jacks and switching to direct either set of inputs to the one phono pre.
