marantz 2270 driving 2 pioneer sx-950's

i think i got this figured out . my 4 marantz imperial 9's all run off the pioneer sx-1250 [ 200 wpc @ 4 ohm ] . the 4 imperial 8 speakers are going to be driven by my 2 bpioneer sx-950 recievers main amps , fed by my marantz 2270 receiver preamp out into the main amps on 950's . so im using the 2270 as a preamp and splitting the signal preout . 1 question . ???? Should i use one sx-950 for the right 2 speakers and other for the left 2 or right and left off each one .???

Either way yo do it, Kevin, it will have the same load on it. It's really a matter of preference. Just make sure you hook up the corresponding speaker to the power input side that you are using, because if you hook up the 2270's pre out to the left power in of the 950, you will only be able to use the left speaker jack of the 950, you follow?

One thing, you say your splitting the pre-out of the 2270. Do you mean you are using a Y-cable and taking one pre out and putting it into both power ins of the 950? If you are, I have only one word for that Scenario, DON'T! You might end up having your own personal fireworks show in your house! It is not wise to take a pre-amp and split it into 2 seperate power amps. I've never done that before, so I can't say for sure what the outcome might be. I just don't think it would be safe. It will most likely overload the pre-amp and cause premature failure.

You could however, do the pre outs of the 2270 to just one side power in of each 950 and then you could use both A & B left speaker terminals of the left 950/and vice versa, and I think you'll be fine that way, but you may put an unbalanced load on the transistors of the 950's causing them to get red hot.

yes i was going to split it with a y cable ., i was reading a thread where they split there signal out and run 2 amps .

yea i asked about that once..
it turned into a little debate..

finally it was settled that it is fine to do so, and no audiable difference will be heard..
the only possible negative side effect is a ground loop.
