Looks like an average restoration is around $300 for a working unit w/o critical issues. I see restored units from $700-$1500. I have my eye on an unrestored listed for $300 locally so no shipping or taxes. Better to get a working unit with unknown issues and have it restored or buy one advertised as restored? Chance either way, but would I be better off to buy the unrestored at a lower price? Looks like a smoker owned it. I see dirt on the inside. Has all knobs, glass intact etc. This will be my first Marantz. Thanks

A complete unhacked 2270 for $300 is a GO!
A proper restoration should be $500 +/-.
A properly restored 2270 for $1000 or less is a good deal.
Anyone selling a “restored” 2270 for under $1000 is suspicious. Either the “restore” is BS or they did it because they love to work and don’t have anything else to do.
A $1500 restored unit is not unreasonable from a good restorer.

Agreed, if cosmetics are very good and it is complete and working, $300 is a great deal for a 2270. Unrestored is IMO a better way to buy, then you don’t have to spend your time (or money) un-f@@@ing someone else’s work.
I agree with everything here. And $300 is very low for any 2270, unless it’s been run over.

My method was sun + baking soda powder + rice in a plastic bag. Changed out weekly, and let it out on the sun for a day each time.
