Marantz 2270 Re2270 pair with Photos

jblmar

JBL & marantz
Hi Marantz fans. Been working on the 2270 for some time. Been running into strange issues with the amp.
The relay refuses to "click""
Connecting the output transistors on the left channel blows the 4A fuse on power up.
Removing the output applies power to the receiver. Still no relay.
This evening I noticed one of the ground wires soldered to the amp board has broken off. In addition, the .01uF disc capacitor has a broken off leg eliminating the ground buss.
It appears to me that someone has worked on this amp in the past and was careless in putting it back together properly. The broken ground would appear to be the reason the fuse blows.
I would like very much to take some photos of these issues, but I can't remember my Administrator Password.
My brother will be over tomorrow and take some photos. He'll email them to me and I'll post here.
Stay tuned.
P.S.The title should have read, "Marantz 2270 Repair with Photos"

While you wait you may as well open that amp board up and test every transister in it.

Every diode and check every resistor.

Recap it while your in there.

You may as well check and recap the other amp. With both open, you can do side to side checks on the resisters without lifting legs (assuming one amp is ok)

Don't you have a dim bulb tester?

Have you checked for dc at relay pins J813, J814 (blue and yellow wires)? I would start there. If no DC present I would be looking into the protection circuit for failures.

Also, you can request a new password by email. Just click forgot password

bryans12v,
There were a few broken ground connections from the left amp with the shorted transistor. In addition the .01 uF disc cap has a broken leg at the body of the cap. Both conditions don't happen without someone messing with the receiver.

Sorry for the delay. My computer has been acting up lately. I'm afraid once I get the issue sorted out I'll have to reinstall my camera and printer. As soon as I can, I'll post the promised photos for you.

Ron, do you have a smartphone? I upload all my pics directly from my phone. Way easier!
