Hi Music Lovers! I just joined.
I’m looking for competent receiver repair for my Marantz 2270 in Northern California. I sent it off to Texas 2 years ago for a very frustrating renovation experience that didn’t get the job done, after holding me hostage for a year! This time I want to be MUCH closer to my amp. Southern Ca is not out of the question but I prefer Central to North.

Last fall I made a trip from Vancouver Canada to to see a concert at The Ace Theatre in Los Angeles. Not sure where you are but one of our stops on the way back was in Redding. Since I am always on the lookout for vintage gear I checked around the afternoon we were there. I found a great shop full of vintage gear and records. Not sure if they service gear but I am sure they could guide you to someone. It was called Redding Records & Music.

Also I just completed a rebuild on a 2270. Bought a rebuild kit from the auction site which included great instructions, tips and suggestions. Turned out great and not too difficult if you have some basic electronics skills. Just another option if you’re up to it.

ISO A good tech in the San Francisco North Bay

Hey all, I haven't been able to find a good tech/repairman for my vintage equipment since I moved back to Northern California. I live in Petaluma, CA and I know there are a bunch of engineers, hobbyists, and retired techs in the hills out here, I just can't seem to find one. The only repair...

As a follow up, y'all might ask all or some of the following questions:

How long have you been in the tech business?
Have you worked on a Marantz before?
How do you charge, by the project or hour?
Is there any time guaranty after the fix?
Where did you get your training?
Can you give me a ball-park estimate?
Do you do the work, or "farm" it out?

Like I suggested, some or all. Most inquiries could be worked into a friendly conversation, without sounding like a detective. But, it is your gear, and sometimes bench-work cost can be prohibitive. If you can obtain at least two other sources for help, you'd have a more valid end cost.

If still leery after your talk, you might ask for some referrals. If the tech is up front and honest, he might offer some.
